God's mercies and fierce anger
The mercies of God or his fierce anger (The whole duty of the matter)
Galatians 4:9
King James Version
Starting with a warning for those saved that have fallen away
9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
In God's decree and judgment he is merciful but he's also fierce in his anger.
For that day belongs to the Lord God of hosts. It will come as destruction from the Almighty. indeed, My decision is to gather nations, to assemble kingdoms, to pour out on them My indignation, All My burning anger; for all the earth will be devoured by the fire of My zeal.
2 Peter 3:10-18
King James Version
I put the whole scripture here for a reason read through it.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen
The earth will stumble around like someone who is drunk; it will shake like a hut in a storm. Its sin is like a heavy weight on its back; it will fall and never rise again. Could be Isaiah whom is speaking.
They realize what has come is not by man but it's the lamb who is causing it.
Revelation 6:16
King James Version
16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb.
We speak about doom & gloom and we want the gospel. The gospel of our salvation. We want the glorious gospel and it must be preached unto the whole world and then the end will come. The wages of sin is death and all the Earth is gathering up wrath saved for the great day of the Lord. (Reserved judgment) Whenever it does come whoever is on Earth if they be atheist, governments, nations, or mockers such don't realize it comes from a true God as they are ignorant because men will know that this does not come from men but it comes from a holy God that does exist. No one on earth will escape this day of God's burning anger on all mankind for the wages of sin are being paid. You see you talk about nuclear weapons and man destroying the Earth which he will but this day is beyond anything man can do because God has the power to shake all the Earth. On that day and it's not to doom and gloom mankind will know it comes from a living holy God in judgment with his fierce anger against all inhabitants of planet Earth.
9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they beheld
God avengers the Saints eventually. But others will eventually be joining them. See God has a series of seals that the lamb is worthy to open.
Isaiah 24:1-23
Isaiah 24:1-23 KJV
Again read the whole scripture because it's put here for a reason. Gives us some detail about the events. This is a great warning. It's spelled out in detail.
Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof. And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word. The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish. The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left. The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do sigh. The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth. They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it. The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in. There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction. When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done. They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry aloud from the sea. Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea. From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously. Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth. And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake. The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly. The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again. And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited. Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.
Unless a person is washed in the blood and truly saved and we're talking about the New testament they have something to fear God.
Revelation 21:8
King James Version
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Jude 1:7
“Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.”
King James Version (KJV)
Sodom and Gomorrah is an example onto the world of all those that wish to live UN godly.
Falling away is not recommended. Serving two masters is not recommended. Going back to the world of sin, flesh and the devil is not recommended.
Galatians 4:9
King James Version
9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
Even looking at people like Spurgeon or Henry Matthew and others such people considered true matured Christians, people considered Saints of before it's incredible their interpretation and their warning of taking scripture out of context. God is not willing that any should perish and he's merciful and that's why sometimes the wicked seem to live forever because in God's decree it has to be his way. There are things hard to understand and Peter and Paul are not at war with each other even though Paul once rebuked apostle Peter. Peter called Paul beloved and knew his ministry had special purpose. So we have to be careful not to twist the scriptures. Some things are hard to understand. The scriptures do warn adding or taking away from them is not advisable. God could blot our names out of the book of Life. You know even reading about Moses and how the people murmured and God took some of the spirit from Moses and gave it to the 70 elders and they prophesied as we can learn something. (God heard Moses and did something about it) God fed those people that complained but later brought a great plague against them. Moses talked to God and was concerned how he could feed this multitude of people that were complaining they had no meat to eat. God's wind by his word brought quail out of the sea and fed them. God rained down manna and fed them in the desert. God even opened the red sea and made a passage for them to cross once. Yet they complained and sort of wanted to go back to Egypt in slavery because even in their torments there they had food and a place to sleep/dwell. But in the wilderness it was very hard. What I get out of reading these passages is they had disrespect for the holy God. In their complaint and their none thankfulness it did not find favor with God but kindled his fierce anger. The faith of a mustard seed! Be thankful. What is the whole matter? The duty of man is to obey Gods Commandments.
As Christians we should be interested in doing God's will and not our own and living a holy life. We should obey the true and living holy God. We should not put God to the test and be thankful for his mercies and not abuse his grace. We should grow in grace. We should not be prideful let alone arrogant. Look at the scripture.."weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage". If you're a true believer and you're a born again believer you were most likey baptized and everything was made new and you put the old man to death and you put on the new man why would you want to go back to the weak elementary principles of the world where in again you desire to be in bondage. Why would you want to go back to the world of sin, flesh and the devil and live an unrighteous life again? Shouldn't you grow in holiness and in grace? See we underestimate the true holy God and when we complain, murmur and have little faith it displeases him. We have to know his word and put it into action. The bereans searched the holy scriptures to see if these things were so day and night. God's word cannot be broken. So it's not like we want to read doom and gloom because the things that are written will come. We have to grow in grace and in holiness.
So in a sense this was a long look at scripture and searching of the heart. What is God's true character? The truth is he's angry but merciful too. John 3:16 (Is the god of the old testament and New testament the same?). To grasp full comprehension is why I quoted the full scripture passages that are quoted as such. The way is straight and narrow. We should contemplate, ponder upon the rudiments of the world. (Simplicity) RUDIMENTS OF FAITH. Back to basics. Simplification. Not complication. But realizing at the same time that the lamb is the one who is the master. So we have to be humble but not lukewarm. We can't be Pharisees but we can't be lukewarm either. Turn the other cheek. Go two miles with your neighbor. Put on the mind of Christ. Rebuke with long suffering. Fight the good fight of faith and put on the whole armor of God. Pick up your cross and follow me. Will I find faith when I return? Forgive others or God will not forgive you Occupy until I come. Love covers a multitude of sins.
I just want to add in my after notes and after thoughts that if you look at the character of Christ and all the miracles he did it's astonishing with such love that he had yet he was despised and rejected. He had fierce opposition and the government on his shoulder as Isaiah wrote. But at the same time he cursed entire cities because they failed to repent. His worst criticism was for the religious Elite. He said that they Jews know what they worship and he was a Jew on Earth yet his own people betrayed him. Most of them including Judas. He said a prophet is not welcomed in his own hometown. God provided a savior while we all deserved hell. Yet are we appreciative? Do we truly worship him in spirit and in truth or are we religious hypocrites that disobey him and fail the lesson which is the whole duty of man.
